Update: Manager of Student Recruitment reached out to me regarding my review and offered me an apology on behalf of the school. I really appreciate the gesture. It shows that he cares about the students! Therefore am updating the star to 3. I will still keep my school options open for UOIT.

I am not making drama. I have to say, I live in North York and rarely made trips to Durham region. I believe representatives have a part to play in projecting the right image for prospective students like me. Unfortunately, my first impression of UOIT was from this gentleman. He was there to represent UOIT but acted like he did not want to be there at all, while at the same time, people from other schools were so welcoming and informative. They even provided me with contact info or updated infor that is not readily available on the website and encouraged me to apply when I finish school. I believe UOIT probably has friendly people as well but I am now ambivalent about applying for it right now.

I am currently an international student studying at UOIT. I chose this university as it is one of the few universities that offer the Mechatronics Engineering program. Even though they are much smaller than other universities in size, they have quite a lot of facilities. They also have their very own wind tunnel. Needs improvement in teaching as some of the teachers are really bad. However, overall the university is really great.

The university is still young, which entails more need for expansion and growth as a school and campus community.

The university is expanding bit by bit in different aspects, such as: adding a new building for classes and registrar's office, more residence building development.

The facilities such as the library or gym are generally good. However, especially during midterm or exam periods, there is a major lack in places to study.

TLDR:Representative at the university fair was extremely rude; Such a shame people like that were hired to represent the school as I've been to the campus and it looked nice.

I am studying in college right now and am interested in transferring to a university for a computer science degree after graduation. I did some research and learnt that UOIT, despite being a quite young university, seems to have a great computer science program with great faculty. It also has a transfer agreement with my school so I can be granted two years of credits. On top of that it is conveniently located in GTA so I thought why not?

In terms of school community, it is simply not all there yet. Exciting events such as ski trips, bubble soccer, and various clubs are available. Additionally, productive functions such as co-op workshops, engineering society, networking events, and job fairs are present. However, many students commute which means after 5pm, the campus will be less lively and there isn't much environment where you can just go to hang out with friends between classes - a lounge type setting.

Program wise, I can only speak for the Engineering program. Professors are generally pretty good. Course load can be difficult at times, but manageable.

So up come the uni fair at my college campus today. Before talking to UOIT, I talked to a few representatives from other schools. They were so helpful in answering my questions but some of the unis are so far away from GTA so I still regarded UOIT as my first option at that time. I noticed that UOIT did have a table there but no one was present. I talked to a few more people and finally the UOIT representative came back. I walked up and started talking to him. However he did not seem welcoming in any way. I remember saying something like "hey man. how are you?" and "you know, you guys are the reason I am here today as I am very interested in your program" but he remained apathetic. He handed me the transfer program booklet, which was on the website already. Then, I intended to say thank you/goodbye to him but he looked away already.

The people working in the registrar's office are extremely rude, judgemental, and condescending. I would suggest students to stay away from these losers.
